Student Pharmacist Huy Pham Selected as an Inaugural Student American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Ambassador

Second-year UCI student pharmacist Huy Pham has been selected by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) national organization as an inaugural student ambassador to support their mission to improve care for older people.

ASCP is the leading membership association representing pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and students serving the unique medication needs of older adults. ASCP is an international organization with members located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and 12 countries. The society’s mission is to promote healthy aging by empowering pharmacists with education, resources, and innovative opportunities.

Pham is one of four student pharmacists in the U.S. selected to serve as a student ambassador in this new pilot initiative. Student ambassadors will serve as a liaison between pharmacy students and local, regional, and national ASCP organizations.

In his role, Pham will:

  • Communicate ASCP information to all students in his local region
  • Collect and share feedback from students
  • Provide updates and messages to ASCP organizations (local, regional, and national)
  • Work with local/regional organizations to present/host events
  • Collaborate with other ambassadors, industry leaders, and ASCP leadership

“I am excited for this opportunity to participate in ASCP’s pilot program,” says Pham. “Not only will I be in touch with other student leaders in ASCP chapters across my region, but I can also begin building the foundation for our own future ASCP student chapter here at UCI’s School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.”

“We commend Huy for stepping up to enhance the care of older adults through pharmacy and for representing UCI’s School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences on the national stage to shape the field,” says Jonathan Watanabe, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Associate Dean of Pharmacy Assessment and Quality, UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. “His contributions will be vital.”
