Shawn Griffin, health sciences assistant clinical professor at the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, was awarded the 2022 Emerging Member Award by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Hematology/Oncology Practice and Research Network (PRN).

This award annually recognizes outstanding oncology pharmacists who significantly impact patient care and clinical pharmacy practice. The Emerging Member Award recognizes a new practitioner member who has contributed significantly to developing or supporting clinical hematology/oncology pharmacy services early in their career.

“Dr. Griffin is an integral member in his multidisciplinary care teams,” says Alexandre Chan, chair and professor of clinical pharmacy practice. “He is pioneering numerous services that greatly benefit cancer patients undergoing complex treatment at UCI Health. This award certainly speaks to Dr. Griffin’s emerging leadership in hematology/oncology practice and his mission to improve patient care.”

Griffin is a founding faculty member in the department of clinical pharmacy practice and is currently developing both didactic and experiential courses for student pharmacists. Griffin also practices as a Board-Certified Oncology Pharmacist within the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he has worked to create new pharmacist-provided clinical services. His research interests include investigating the role of pharmacists in clinical practice and optimizing the dosing of oncology-related medications in special populations.

Griffin was presented his award by Donald Moore, Chair of the ACCP Hematology/Oncology PRN, at the 2022 ACCP Global Conference in San Francisco, California, on October 16, 2022.

The Hematology/Oncology PRN facilitates the timely dissemination of information related to the clinical practice, research, and teaching of hematology and oncology among its members and serves as a resource for hematology and oncology expertise to others. The PRN provides a forum for hematology/oncology pharmacists to network and collaborate on scientific, educational, and political issues affecting clinical practice, teaching, and research.

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) is a professional and scientific society that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources enabling clinical pharmacists to achieve excellence in practice, research, and education.
