Student Pharmacist Huy Pham Selected for Paul G. Cano Summer Legislative Internship of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists in Washington, DC

UCI second-year student pharmacist, Huy Pham, is one of two students in the nation selected for the Paul G. Cano Summer Legislative Internship of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) in Washington, DC.  ASCP is the leading pharmacy organization devoted to health care for older adults.

Pham will be working directly with the ASCP Senior Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs in the ASCP Policy and Advocacy Department as well as the ASCP Executive Fellow summer 2023.

In memory of Paul G. Cano, ASCP’s former Director of Government Affairs, ASCP has maintained a legislative internship position since 1993. The internship offers student pharmacists valuable experience and training in legislative and regulatory advocacy on a federal level, and a first-hand look at how politics shape pharmacists’ practice across the nation.

“I am thrilled to head to Washington, DC to participate in this legislative internship,” says Pham. “It’ll be a fantastic opportunity for me to be involved in the advancement of care for older adults outside of direct patient care.”

“We are so proud of Huy for continuing to step-up to improve care for patients, positively shape health policy, and to move the pharmacy field forward,” says Jonathan Watanabe, associate dean of pharmacy assessment and quality, UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.
