Herman Johannesmeyer Joins UC Irvine As Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor

The UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences welcomes Herman Johannesmeyer, PharmD, as a new faculty member serving in the role of health sciences assistant clinical professor starting January 3, 2023.

“We are excited that Dr. Johannesmeyer is joining us as clinical faculty,” says Alexandre Chan, chair and professor of clinical pharmacy. “Working closely with the pharmacy team at UCI Health, Dr. Johannesmeyer will coordinate a pharmacy-led internal medicine program at UCI Medical Center, which will eventually serve as a training ground for UCI pharmacy students and residents. This is a strategic initiative for both the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and the UCI Medical Center Department of Pharmacy.”

Johannesmeyer received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He completed a two-year pharmacotherapy residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Before joining UCI, Johannesmeyer held an appointment as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at the Marshall B. Ketchum University College of Pharmacy in Fullerton, California and maintained a clinical role at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California.

His research interests include corticosteroid optimization in acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the effects of antibiotic timing on clinical outcomes. “UC Irvine has a storied history of both academic and healthcare excellence. I’m looking forward to training our students and advancing patient care at UCI Medical Center,” says Johannesmeyer.
