Commencement Spotlight: Christopher Liang

Chris Liang

Meet Christopher Liang, a Class of 2021 graduate who earned a Master of Science in Pharmacology. He is one of 119 graduates from the UCI School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences!

Q: What originally attracted you to pharmaceutical sciences?

I currently work at UC Irvine as a researcher in a preclinical imaging lab, but I have a chemistry background. So after working for several years in research, I thought it would be a good idea to get to learn more about my field and understand more about how the body works and how drug development is done. If anything, it would help my base knowledge when it came to things I was already working on, so it could only be an improvement.

Q: How has your UCI experience prepared you for the next chapter in your life?

Studying at UCI definitely helped expand my knowledge about my field of work as well as various industry opportunities and research, so I feel like this is more of a continuation of the current chapter than a new one. I think I’ll use what I’ve learned to advance in a field and work area that I’ve enjoyed a lot.

Q: Do you have any advice to future students entering the Master of Science in Pharmacology program?

It’s tough, especially if you’re also working, but just keep your head steady and don’t get overwhelmed by work. All the teachers and advisors for the MS in Pharmacology program were full of advice and understanding, so don’t feel afraid to reach out to them or to your fellow students. You’re all in this together, after all.
