UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences Earns Best Poster Award for Collaborative Project

On Oct. 19, 2021, the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) held its inaugural Virtual Poster Fair Showcase. The event highlighted the research and scholarship of teams developing and implementing interprofessional education for collaborative practice (IPECP) projects.

As one of 23 teams participating, the UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences earned the best poster award in the category of “System & Statewide IPECP” for the project titled “A College-wide Approach to Interprofessional Education.”

A College-wide Approach to Interprofessional Education, won the best poster for the System & Statewide IPECP.

The Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences at UCI includes four professional programs: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Public and Population Health. In 2020, a committee of all four professions convened to begin plans for developing and implementing interprofessional education (IPE) across the college.

“Through our collaborative and intentional planning, we have been able to implement IPE activities and ensure that the topics are timely and relevant,” said UCI Health Sciences Clinical Professor Sarah McBane, PharmD, who presented the project at the IPEC Virtual Poster Fair Showcase. “The key outcome is that our College of Health Sciences students have agreed that the IPE sessions are enhancing their ability to work on an interprofessional team.”

Along with McBane, the College of Health Sciences’ IPE Work Group includes Julie Youm, PhD, Warren Wiechmann, MD, MBA, Robert Edwards, MD, PhD, and Khanh-Van Le-Bucklin, MD from the UCI School of Medicine; Tiffany Nielson, DNP, FNP-C, ENP-C from the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing; and David Timberlake, PhD from the UCI Program in Public Health.
