Dr. Melanie Joe Reappointed as Associate Dean of Pharmacy Professional Affairs

Dr. Melanie Joe has been reappointed as the Associate Dean of Pharmacy Professional Affairs for the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Serving as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for UCI Health as well, Dr. Joe facilitates the connection between the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and UCI Medical Center Pharmacy.

She is responsible for providing academic leadership; leading strategic initiatives that advance the school’s mission; fostering collaboration; recruiting and supporting faculty and staff; building relationships with alumni, donors, industry partners, and professional organizations; and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and regulations.

“Her contributions have been critical to establishing the extensive experiential training component of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, practice sites for the majority of our clinical faculty, and innovative pharmacy practices such as integrative health. Her leadership has been instrumental in establishing our joint strategic plan between the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and UCI Medical Center Pharmacy,” Founding Dean Jan Hirsch stated.

Dr. Joe’s current term as Associate Dean of Pharmacy Professional Affairs began on July 1 and will continue until June 30, 2030.

“In this next term, my focus will be on creating innovative practice models to support our student learners, expanding experiential learning opportunities, reinforcing relationships with leaders in the pharmacy community, and developing and implementing strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of the school,” she said. “The strong collaboration that exists between the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and UCI Medical Center Pharmacy will be further reinforced and extended to our Community Network Pharmacy team members.”
