Dr. Alexandre Chan Reappointed as Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice

Dr. Alexandre Chan, Founding Chair of the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice, has been reappointed to the role.

Dr. Chan helped to establish the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice in 2020, alongside the founding of the UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program was also established in 2020, with the inaugural class attending their White Coat Ceremony in 2021.

Two significant initial goals of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice and PharmD program have recently been realized with the graduation of the inaugural class and accreditation of the program.

“Dr. Chan is a valuable administrative and academic thought-leader for the PharmD program and school overall, and I look forward to working with him moving forward,” stated Founding Dean Jan Hirsch. “He has excelled at recruiting, hiring, and developing inclusive, high-quality faculty and staff; creating policies and procedures to operate the new department; and significantly contributing to the development of our new school overall. He has promoted key collaborations between our school and the UCI Health system to advance common goals and establish faculty practices and training sites for student pharmacists and pharmacy residents.”

Dr. Chan’s new term began on July 1, 2025 and will continue to June 30, 2030.

“I am truly honored to be reappointed as Chair. I’m deeply grateful to Dean Hirsch and all the faculty and staff for the confidence you’ve placed in me to continue leading the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice,” he said. “As I begin my new term, I look forward to further advancing our department’s vision — strengthening our foundation; expanding our partnerships; and ensuring we remain at the forefront of transforming pharmacy practice, education, and research.”
