On October 17th, the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences commemorated the signing of a collaboration agreement with the College of Pharmacy at Taipei Medical University (TMU).
The UCI-TMU Strategic Collaboration Signing event solidified the first international partnership for the UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. The collaboration between the two institutions is expected to bring forth a wealth of opportunities, including exchanges of faculty, researchers, and students; joint research projects and publications; exchanges of materials and information; joint educational programs; joint participation in conferences, symposia, seminars, and workshops; and special projects and visits.
With representatives from each school in attendance, the signing event featured remarks by Dr. Allen Chao, along with Founding Dean Jan Hirsch and Associate Dean Shawn Chen, representing UC Irvine and TMU, respectively.
Dr. Chao was a very special guest, as he is an alumnus and trustee of TMU and a tremendous supporter of UCI. Along with his family, Dr. Chao has helped to establish a number of UCI Health institutes, including the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange and Irvine. He has also served as a trusted advisor to Founding Dean Jan Hirsch in the development of the UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Both Dean Hirsch and Associate Dean Chen made remarks, noting the possibilities afforded by the historic milestone and expressing gratitude for the hard work that has made the collaboration agreement a reality.
“Thank you to everyone whose dedication has made this possible. This is just the beginning of what I am sure will be a successful adventure,” Dean Hirsch stated. “I look forward to watching the full extent of how this partnership will benefit each of our institutions.”
