PhD Student Profile: Brandon Latifi

Watch this PhD Profile Video to learn more about Brandon Latifi, 3rd Year PhD Student in Professor Luptak’s lab.

Topics include: research opportunities, diversity, equity and inclusion, student resources, remote learning experience, and faculty support.

In addition, Latifi provides invaluable advice to prospective graduate students: “The best advice I can give is don’t ever let someone tell you, you are not good enough to succeed in the program. Your actions speak louder than words, and if you can persevere and show everyone that you are here for a reason, I think that is important.”

Latifi also illustrates how despite the pandemic, PhD students at UCI’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences continue to persevere in their research endeavors.

“The COVID-19 pandemic allows you to look back at your own research and think I want to push the boundaries, I want to excel in my field, and I want to bring something new to the table that will allow us to be at the forefront of our research area,” said Latifi.

UCI Student Ryan Kwok Creates a Community Through the ZOTRx Podcast

To fill this void and make do with the extra time they had on their hands due to the pandemic, Ryan Kwok and the Pre-Pharmacy Society launched the ZOTRx Podcast in September 2020. Inviting UCI alumni who were practitioners in the field, Kwok interviewed people from across the industry to share inspiring stories about their careers. “I hoped my peers would find it helpful for their professional development if they heard about the experiences of people who were in our shoes before.”

2021 Giving Day Results

On April 28th, UCI hosted their fifth annual Giving Day. This year, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences dedicated their Giving Day proceeds to supporting our first-ever alumni supported student scholarship and our White Coat fund.

The alumni-supported student scholarship was created by our Anteaters in Pharmacy chapter. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to raise more than $4,000 to go toward supporting the next generation of pharmacy and pharmaceutical professionals.
