Seminar Series: “Exploring the Chemical Origins of Biopolymers” featuring Dr. Nicholas Hud, Georgia Tech
September 12, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Department Seminar Series:
Exploring the Chemical Origins of Biopolymers
Professor Nicholas Hud
Regents’ Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry
September 12, 2017
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Natural Sciences I, Room 1114
Recent experimental results are providing support for the hypothesis that RNA and polypeptides have evolved from their earliest forms. The implications of these results on the possible structure of the “proto-biopolymers,” and potential remnants of these polymers in extant life, will be discussed.
About Professor Nicholas Hud:
Professor Nicholas Hud received his B.S. degree from Loyola Marymount University and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a NIH postdoctoral fellow at UCLA. He is currently Regents’ Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Tech, founding Director of the NSF-NASA Center for Chemical Evolution, and Associate Director of the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience.
