Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminar Series:

“Tissue crosstalk and the molecular effectors of physical activity”

Dr. Jonathan Long
Assistant Professor of Pathology and an Institute Scholar of Stanford ChEM-H
Stanford University

Wed., Nov 2, 12-1p

Event Location: ISEB 1010

Presentation synopsis:

Exercise is a powerful physiologic stimulus that provides benefits to multiple organ systems and protection against disease. However, the molecules of physical activity remain poorly understood. Here, we discuss our recent work using mass spectrometry-based approaches to identify – and then mechanistically dissect – key exercise-inducible molecules that mediate tissue crosstalk and function as molecular effectors of

physical activity.

Speaker bio:

Dr. Jonathan Long is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and an Institute Scholar of Stanford ChEM-H (Chemistry, Engineering & Medicine for Human Health). At Stanford, the Long laboratory studies signaling pathways in mammalian energy metabolism. The long-term goal of this work is to discover new molecules and pathways that can be translated into therapeutic opportunities for obesity, metabolic disease, and other age-associated chronic diseases.
