Aude Segaliny receives Tom Angell Fellowship Award

On February 27, Post-Doctoral Fellow Dr. Aude Segaliny from the Zhao Lab received the Tom Angell Fellowship Award at the annual Mentoring for Achievement and Excellence Ceremony at UCI.

This prestigious award honors Tom Angell — a longtime UCI graduate counselor—by recognizing graduate students, faculty, and post-doctoral scholars who have demonstrated excellent mentorship to UCI students.

“There is not a single formula for good mentoring, as it varies along with students’ personalities, learning styles, etc.,” says Dr. Segaliny. “I’d quote that book, Adviser, Teacher, Role Model, Friend: On Being a Mentor to Students in Science and Engineering, which mentions that being a mentor is more than simply being an adviser; it’s also being a supporter, a tutor, a master, a sponsor and a model. This award reflects nearly three years of rich and diverse mentoring experiences in the Zhao lab, where I learned a lot. It reminds me how grateful I am to my mentees, and that the best reward ever remains to see them succeeding.”

“Dr. Segaliny’s mentorship and guidance to junior students in the lab have been critical to their career development and professional development,” adds Associate Professor Weian Zhao. “Her achievement also exemplifies our commitment to do everything we can to ensure successful career paths for our trainees.”

Congratulations Dr. Segaliny!
